Art Oratoire 2014

Public Speaking Event

We gathered, parents, staff and administration of the Academy on Thursday, October 30, 2014 to enjoy our students’ performances for this year Public Speaking event.

The group of speakers were presented according to their abilities and expertise to express their ideas on stage. Public Speaking is the second activity that succeeds “snack-sharing” held to celebrate Thanksgiving Day. It is the second of the five major events that the Providence Academy celebrates throughout the school year. The major objective of Public Speaking is to promote, in an atmosphere of happiness and sharing, the acquisition of knowledge and competencies in more than one area of learning.

What was the specificity of the “Public Speaking” of this school year?

In addition to its linguistic interest, psychological and social interest, this activity was intended to foster in our students, as part of our educational program, the opportunity to think of exciting new ways and review any theme (topic) while channeling their ideas and values towards the symbolism of the gift, for example. Knowing  that the “True gift,” as just pointed out Lisette Mazraani, Professor of MS, ” is given with a generous gratuity, it is given without counting and without expecting anything in return as the pure love of a mother, as the true friendship of a friend, as the healthy life that God grants us. We are all called to be gifts for each other…”

Parallel to the activities that promote the love of reading, our students learn to write their own speeches for the occasion in accordance with their own style. They are trained to develop the impact that catches the attention and interest of the audience. The speeches written by the grade 5 and 6 students are a proof of this initiation and it is with pride and joy that we heard these students, alongside the quality of performance that other students have shown.

The event ended by presenting symbolic gifts to the parents while singing “Le cadeau de la Vie” of Brigitte LeBeau: “Whatever is your story, the important thing is to believe in the gift of life. The world of hope, yes it is in you that grows.” This is consistent with the saying: “See all things as a gift and so, over time, all things will become.”
