Science Fair 2015 • Cycle 3

Event details

 Our future scientists

The Science Fair allows not only to put in practice the scientific method, but also to promote the opportunity to learn and invent.

Mrs. Carmen Khoury, the Science and Technology teacher, mindful of the development of the student’s critical thinking, made her primary task to initiate the practice of the scientific method in the students’ research projects. Mrs. Carmen reported, “5th and 6th graders had observed phenomena from the real world from which they had formulated their questions and carried out investigations by implementing experiments completed by research. The complete scientific projects were displayed in the school gymnasium and presented to parents and peers at the science fair.”

In fact, individual projects submitted by grade 5 and 6 students showed not only the respect of the scientific method in its five main stages, but also the seriousness with which the students had conducted their research. The varied subjects were clearly developed and aesthetically displayed. It was impressive and interesting to listen to our future scientists presenting their work that indicated the extent of their knowledge of the subjects they had chosen themselves.

Each project was displayed on a three-fold poster board. The students defined their question, wrote the hypothesis then described their observation, and did not forget to list the material used. After writing the procedure, they added the drawings, diagrams, graphs before proceeding to the conclusion. The students provided the answer to the question and proved that the hypothesis previously defined is verified. An acknowledgment addressed to the person who assisted in the experiment was added at the end of the presentation.

Thank you to Mrs. Carmen for initiating the students to conduct research on subjects which were of great interest to them. They had the opportunity not only to practice the scientific method, but also to learn and invent. Thank you to Mrs. Mireille for her support that enormously helped the students to develop their art abilities applied to science and technology. Congratulations to our dear students in Cycle 3 for their admired innovation!
