Science Fair 2016 • Junior Kindergarten JK

Event details

Manipulating objects and discovering matter, what a pleasure!

Discover matter, experiment on some liquids, and instill in children the taste of observation were the educational objectives of the 2016 Science Fair projects organized by the JK teacher.

What were the topics that JK students had to explore? The motivated students who had to focus on their respective activities were divided into eight groups of two. They had to demonstrate the properties they discovered by manipulating objects and experimenting around the air, water, dish soap, milk, syrup and oil. These activities were done with joy and enthusiasm generated by Mrs. Lisette.

One of the groups had to show the reaction of dish soap in milk using food colouring as an indicator. Milk contains water and fat in the form of small drops; therefore, dish soap pushes the food colouring to the edges of the container and fixes on the fat. The food colouring can then mix more easily with the milk. Another group had to show that the syrup, being heavier than the oil, sinks to the bottom of a glass; the oil, by not being dense, always rises to the surface. One of the groups had to discover and demonstrate how a flower thrives in water; the petals of a folded paper flower floating on the surface of the water open due to the water that passes between the fibers of the paper.

Thank you to Mrs. Lisette Mazraani for the choice of these experiments and her interest to not only awaken the curiosity and sense of observation among the students using the two criteria necessary in the scientific method, but to promote the enrichment of the vocabulary and the development of socialization as well.

Well done, Keep up the hard work!
